From the back cover: "It's time to make something! But first, discover countless new ways to work with and combine common art supplies and offbeat materials you may not have considered using before. If you already love working with paper, paint, ephemera, found objects, and fabric, you will discover lots of innovative techniques in these pages. And if you are an aspiring artist looking for ideas and inspiration? It's all here. Whether your interests are collage, assemblage, altered books, journals or mixed media, Alphabetica promises to get you started and to keep you trying new things while uncovering new depths of creativity."

Does this book sound like it was written specifically for Suite101.com's Mixed Media Arts topic? What an exciting discovery this was! Why couldn't it have been found sooner?

This book features the art and creativity of fourteen artists:

  1. Lisa Renner
  2. Lisa Hoffman
  3. Linn C. Jacobs
  4. Lesley Riley
  5. Lesley Jacobs
  6. Teesha Moore
  7. Claudine Hellmuth
  8. Monica Riffe
  9. Michelle Ward
  10. Lynne Perrella
  11. Karen Michel
  12. Shirley Ende-Saxe
  13. Sarah Fishburn
  14. Judi Riesch

Despite this book's slender appearance (it looks like a thick magazine with a very sturdy cover), it's FULL of pictures, examples, how-to's, tips and workshops. When this book promises to provide instruction and inspiration, it delivers hands down. The unique style of each artist is beautifully portrayed with interesting photography and well though descriptions.

This book comes highly recommended by this book reviewer for several reasons:

  • it will teach you something new
  • it'll give you an opportunity to view other's work
  • you'll receive constant inspiration
  • the threat of artist's block will be tamed
  • thinking "outside the box" will be less of a challenge
  • you'll be encouraged to break out of your comfort zone

It doesn't matter how many times you read this book through, becoming bored with this timeless material won't become an issue. Now, go out and get a copy and make something!
