We talked about how crayons are considered the "other art medium," so let's play with them in our art journals.

I love using crayons in my art journals, scrapbooks, altered books and numerous other projects. Let's get started!

Gather your supplies:

  • your art journal
  • a box of crayons
  • glue sticks
  • old book pages
  • mixed patterned paper
  • rubber stamps
  • black ink
  • distress ink

Working through your page spreads:

  1. open your art journal to a clean page spread
  2. rip your patterned paper into chunks with frayed edges
  3. rip your old book pages into chunks with frayed edges
  4. rub distress ink along the edges of all your papers and set aside to dry
  5. once the papers are dry, affix a layer of patterned paper to your page spread with the glue stick
  6. over the patterned paper, layer your book page chunks with the glue stick
  7. take your crayons and make random swirling lines over all the papers in as many different colors as you can
  8. using the black ink and rubber stamps, stamp images in random places throughout your page spread
  9. color in your stamped images once they've dried.
  10. shade along the edges of your page spread using a brown, black and green crayon and blend the colors

You're done! Repeat this process on several page spreads and experiment with other forms of media to go along with your crayons.
