I really did not give much thought to this in recent years until I read Hannah Keeley’s Total Mom Makeover. There really are a lot of songs that fit in with moments, memories, and moods. I knew this already from times when I have been riding in my car and a memory is tripped by a simple song on the radio.
This really started the wheels in motion, though. My work environment (for my career, as well as my creative time) is way too quiet. The only sounds I hear on a typical day are:
I need music. Why don’t I play the music I have? Honestly, and this is going to sound weird, I don’t have a stereo or a radio . . . my computer will play music, but it’s so old that I can't run any kind of media (YouTube.com makes my computer freeze!). So, where does this leave me? I need to make some investments!
The even stranger part of this whole thing is, once upon a time, I was a manager of a music store and my collection of music was insane. I had bits and pieces of everything; therefore I could match up just about any mood I was in or social event I was hosting. All of that is gone now, but it was still very much a part of who I was and how I lived.
Do you have music that you either work or create by?
