Do You Use Digital Imagery?

Do you print out clip art or other digital imagery for your mixed media art projects?

There have been times when I really do not want to use original photography in my mixed media art pieces, so I have turned to the web to find something similar. Suddenly, I found myself opening the door to new possibilities I could not explore with a glossy photograph. Rather than using photo paper, I printed the digital images on multipurpose paper so I could:

  • Tear the paper and create a deckled edge.
  • Rub chalk over the image and seal with spray fixative.
  • Use rubber stamped layers over the images.
  • Distress the edges with ink.
  • Paint over the images with watercolor or acrylics.
  • Smudge oil pastels over them.

There are a lot more I could experiment with, as well. I also found that, when using printed out images, the work is not quite as weighty. So, if I’m working in an altered book or on art journal pages, the binding does not bow out quite as much. Give this a try if you have not done so already!
