When was the last time you visited an art gallery to get a bird’s eye view of other mixed media artist’s work?

It has been a very long time since I have walked into and spent time at an art gallery or museum. Unfortunately, no one I’m connected to in my day-to-day life have any interest in art or art history. So, this desire to view art in person has been pushed to the back burner time and time again.

I feel it is important to view art in person, though. Here are a few reasons why:

  • The audience has the opportunity to see the textures and true colors of the work.
  • There may be an opportunity to speak to or listen to a lecture by an artist doing a showing.
  • Other artists will be present, so it is a good opportunity to network with others sharing your interests.

While the Internet and art books deliver beautiful pictures, it is not the same as standing in front of someone’s work. There have been rare moments in the past when I have been able to see and speak to the artist’s who were showing their work and that was truly an experience I would like to relive.

How often do you visit art galleries? Is this something you would like to do more often, but cannot for one reason or another? Do you feel art galleries featured online fill in the gap when you cannot visit them?
