Letter writing, to me, has always been an art form. Be it pretty papers, interesting text, or just the act of writing . . . creativity ensues.

Letter writing has always taken a prominent role in this mixed media artist’s life. When I was younger, I would write to people daily. It ranged from people I went to school with, distant relatives, and pen pals. I loved to write and the idea of someone else reading my words (or seeing how creatively I decorated the letter) made it that much more appealing.

What are your thoughts on letter writing and how it relates to the art world, mixed media arts in particular? Do you feel letter writing has taken the back burner to email, texting, instant messaging, and other forms of modern communication?

I admit, I don’t write letters daily anymore. I’ve gotten my children into the practice of letter writing twice per week. We incorporate art on each letter, and soon they will be learning how to embellish envelopes. It’s important to me to keep the art of letter writing from being lost in our household. Is this important to you, as well?
