Were You an April Fool?

I Managed to Get Through the Entire Day Unscathed

What does April Fool's Day have to do with mixed media art? If you have a studio or dedicated workspace, then read on . . .

I gave some serious thought to writing some unserious blog posts and articles as an April Fool’s joke here yesterday, but I decided against it for many reasons. The number one reason: it seemed like everyone everywhere else (countless websites) was already playing these pranks. It’s funny, but I decided to keep it real here.

Were you an April Fool? Did you get “pranked?”

There was one year when I walked into my studio and all of my paintbrushes were up side down in the container, my works in progress were all up side down, some things were switched around, and all of my books were backwards on the bookshelf. I had forgotten what day it was until I heard little giggles from the hallway.

APRIL FOOL’S, MOMMY! Yes, my little pranksters were at play. They didn’t hit anywhere else in the house because they knew I would notice my art supplies being “wrong” first. Funny how they know me so well as such a young age and, oddly enough, that was the last April Fool’s prank that was played on me.

I don’t mind, though, because some people can get really complicated when staging their pranks. I’m sure when the kids get older, rather than making my art supplies “wrong” . . . they’ll find a way to empty the whole room out. Yep, I’ll have teenage boys in a few years so I know I have to expect something big.
