- I'm in the middle of nowhere....
I have to travel to get anwywhere and, when I do, I find Craftmania, Michael's and Joanne's (sp?) Fabrics. Like you, we also have a couple of indie scrapbook stores. I haven't done a lot of scrapbooking, but the paper and embellishments are addicitive for other mixed media work!
Especially handmade book making and mixed media paintings!

Hm....Craftmania...never heard of that one. I visited Michael's today. They had a good new Prismacolor set I had never seen, but when I tried to use my coupon on it, they said I couldn't because it was on sale. Nowhere did they post it as being on sale that I could see. They really aggravate me. Hobby Lobby has a better selection. OfficeMax has a few things that work for me on my current colored pencil kick like vellum.

I miss Hobby Lobby - I used to frequent there when I lived in New Mexico many, many moons ago! There's nothing like that around here, though (the one in NM was HUGE!). I go to Staples or Office Max (like you) for some things, too.

Have you ever been to a Dick Blick store? I think that is a little bit like heaven. The prices are good, and the selection is excellent. They have my favorite brands....Golden acrylics....M. Graham watercolors....Prismacolor colored pencils....Arches papers....the good stuff.

Honestly, I didn't know Dick Blick stores existed until I read about them in your posts!
I would *love* to go to one someday!!

You should go to their website and order their catalog. They run web specials periodically. The catalog is very nice and user-friendly. If you order enough stuff, shipping is free. The catalog has everything the stores have, and more. I think all their stuff is also on their website.
I know it might sound like I'm advertising for them--that's not the case. I am not an employee or officially associated with them in any way. I am just a very satisfied customer. I really like places with good prices, great selection, and stellar service. Dick Blick's has given me all this. I'm sure there are lots of other great places to get art supplies, too....this is just the one I like the best out of the ones I have tried.

I bet you could make some really pretty paper beads with it.

I should write a tutorial about that . . .

Yes, you should. Have you tried making them with UTEE? That makes them really durable and adds weight.
I saw the directions in I think the July issue of Cloth Paper Scissors. I made 20 for a swap I was in.
